Weekly Reflection
With twenty-four hours under my belt, my experience in the alumni office has been exciting and fun. I've been able to meet the members of the alumni office, who are a very welcoming, fun, and energetic group, which makes the small tedious tasks exceedingly better. Anyways, so far, what I've learned is how vital the alumni office is to the entirety of Proctor. This is shown through ongoing funding, alumni outreach, and community building. Although there is the main donation period, there is always an opportunity to donate transparently. When it comes to the community outreach, they send thank you notes to people who donate and create opportunities to have your name attached to a chair in the meeting house, a bike rack, or locker, which leaves their mark on the community. The office also pushes to build long-lasting relationships with alumni and their families and friends. Their outreach is what creates their own unique community.
I had a general idea of the Alumni Office, which limited my expectations. I knew there would be some graduation planning, and we have taken part in some of that, but not as much as I expected. Another expectation I had was that we would be meeting alumni, which is something we technically have already done since there are so many alumni working at Proctor. I think I will benefit from this experience by learning how non-profit works, how they generate money, and how they generate cash. If I ever choose to work for a non-profit or need to raise funds for an organization, I will already have a general idea of how it will work. Lastly, one of my goals heading into the senior project was to learn how the Alumni Office runs and how it benefits the school. I have definitely met this goal.
Best line, "Another expectation I had was that we would be that we would be meeting alumni, which is something we technically have already done since there are so many alumni working at Proctor." 👍🏼
ReplyDeleteWell done Wesley! Especially the goal to "build long lasting relationships," this is not only vital to Proctor but to any organization.
ReplyDeleteWes, it's been fantastic to have your energy and can-do attitude in the Development and Alumni Relations office. We appreciate all that you've done and look forward to working with you throughout the rest of Senior Project and into the summer as an intern.
ReplyDeleteWesley, you're clearly rocking this work. I appreciate your increasingly comprehensive knowledge here. I'm so glad that you've been finding enriching work with those good people!
ReplyDeleteGood work Wes!!!
ReplyDeleteWes, I'm curious if you're finding that this work is making you more or less interested in working in the non-profit world? There is a great deal of good do in this work but as you are experiencing, there is also a great deal of demanding work to take on as well.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for all your help Wes!
